TIMING CHAIN REPLACEMENT COST FROM $1,950.00 INC. GST
Complete late model timing chain kits including new Chain, Gears, tensioner and guides. Fitted including GST.
The timing chain runs on toothed sprockets -- similar to a bicycle chain -- between the crankshaft and the camshaft. In most engines, the chain is held in position by hardened plastic guides and is kept tight by oil-pressure fed ratcheting tensioners.
A loose chain could cause major engine damage, especially if it jumps off one of the sprockets. If a chain comes off, pistons could hit valves and destroy the engine.
One of the first sighs of a timing stretching can be the engine check light coming on, This is not the computer telling you the chain is stretched but that the camshaft or crank shaft sensor is faulty. Normally code P0340 (Camshaft Position Sensor) or P0335 (Crankshaft Position Sensor). The sensors are normally fine, it is the computer seeing the sensors top and bottom (Cam & Crank) not timed correctly and assumes the sensor must be faulty. An actual fact it is the timing chain that’s stretched past the point of the auto tensioners adjustment and beyond. Now the camshaft timing lags behind causing hard starting, Lack of power, Miss firing, sometimes Rattling noises and the engine warning light on the dash to come on. We have found this to be common in Nissan, Some Mazda, Audi, VW and Toyota’s
